"Give me a break." This is usually my response to one of my kiddos when they manage to make excuses on why they did not do something that I asked them to do. "I forgot." "It's too hard." "I don't know how." Are just some of the excuses I have received in my 12 years of being a parent.
In Exodus 3, Moses the great leader of the Israelites formulates in his mind some of the best excuses on why he cannot go to Pharaoh as God's chosen leader. The first one that he uses is, "Who am I"? Moses is basically saying, "I am not a good leader." And God's response is, "I will be with you." Not happy that God did not back down, my man Moses decides to go to the excuse bag for his second try. Excuse number two is, "What is your name"? God answers Moses with His most intimate name, the I Am. I can hear Moses telling himself, "man this guy is good!" So, Moses pulls excuse number 3 out of the bag, "what if they do not believe me"? So in response to this God gives Moses the power to perform 3 signs so Pharaoh would believe him. Then the fourth excuse, "I'm not a good speaker." God tells him, "I have control of your mouth and I will teach you what to say." Finally Moses tells God to send someone else.
I wonder how often we make excuses about things we do not want to do? Like; serving others, tithing, going to Church, studying, praying and many more.
I'm sure there are days in my life when God looks at me and says, "give me a break." Let's trust God and know that He is going to be with us and stop making excuses in our life.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
