The other day I found myself listening to some classic rock music. One of my favorite classic bands is Skynyrd. In the early 70's the Southern Rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd had a song titled, "The Smell." The song lyrics itself is not the focus of this post, but the title of the song is.
The title of the song made me think. The Apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians, "For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing."
I believe that if we want to see change in the Church and change in the world we must learn to smell of Christ. How many people know that you belong to the Good Shepherd's sheep pen? Sheep smell, do you?
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
Reminds me of "They Smell Like Sheep", good book.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be a recurring theme among your posts of a call to discipleship and an urging to read the Bible and really understand what it says...and I Like It.
The sticky part for me becomes how to communicate this call to others and in turn motivate them to WANT to spread the word. The only sense I have made of it is the dichotomy between love and fear.
There has been a teaching model in churches of Christ and many others for far too long of creating conversion through fear of eternal damnation. And there isn't really anything wrong with that per se, but what I believe God would want is people who love the Lord SO much they would convert.
And that is what would genuinely energize an entire discipling of this nation. Therefore, I will take your "That Smell" by Skynyrd and raise you one "Who Do You Love" by The Doors?
Sing it now..Who Do You Love!!
