Now I know the phrase, "Shut Up" is a phrase that we teach our kiddos not to say. In my house it is known as the "S" word. But the more I think about this phrase, I think it is the best phrase we can have for our walk as a Disciple of the Messiah. Let me explain.
In Exodus 14 we have the story of Moses leading the Israelites across the Jordan. In the first few verse we have God saying, "I will." Now for me, that is comforting. When God tells me that He will do something I need to learn to trust and listen to Him. Further into the story we see Israel crying out to God and being afraid. So often we are in situations that we begin to cry out and doubt God. This is the time we need to remember the phrase, "I Will."
And now to the "shut up" part. Exodus 14:14 reads, "The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent." Now I know it does not say shut up, maybe I just want it to be okay to say the phrase, "shut up." But I believe that this is the problem with most Christians. We try to do things our way and we end up in a mess. All we have to do is to learn to shut up and listen to God becuase He will fight for us.
So, Shut Up in your ministry and listen to God. Shut Up in your marriage and listen to God. Shut up in your parenting and listen to God. Shut Up in your vocation and listen to God.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
This Doug is humbled!
