Break On Through

"Break on Through to the Other Side." Yes, I know that is a title of a Doors song. I really don't know all of the words to the song, but I love this part of the song. So many of us Christ followers have certain places we will not go. Most of us have our "comfort zone" and we like to stay in it.

I believe if you follow the life of Jesus, He made a habit of pushing His followers out of the "comfort zone" to the other side. If you don't believe me go read Acts 10. In my opinion, this is a great example of someone "breaking through." Here is the Apostle Peter laying on his roof taking a nap. While he is looking at the back of his eyelids he has a dream. We all know what happens in the dream. During the dream a voice tells Peter to kill and eat the animals. Peter's response is not surprising. He tells the voice that he will not eat anything that is unholy or unclean. We all know that this is Jesus preparing Peter to "break through to the other side." The purpose of the dream was to show Peter the Gospel is for all people, even those wretched and dirty Gentiles. I would have loved to have seen when Peter, a Jew, walked into the house of Cornelius, a Gentile.

I believe it is time for Christians to understand that the Gospel is for all, no matter who they are or where they live or what they have done or maybe currently doing. It is time for Christians to "Break on Through!"

So, my question for you is simple, "Are You Ready To Break On Through To The Other Side"?

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

  1. It's been long enough that we sanitize our churches thinking that only a specific demographic fits our mold. I appreciate your post and am personally convicted to reach beyond my preset ideas of who I should reach out to. I am unholy. I am unclean. Arent we all a part of Peter's dream and need acceptance and a place to belong?
...and by the way, I think the members of the Doors would be interested that you have taken this interpretation of their song:)

  2. You know the day divides the night. Night divides the day. Try to run, try to hide. Break on through to the other side. Break on through to the other side.
