I am currently reading "Why Jesus Crossed the Road" by Bruce Main. I would encourage you to buy this book. It puts a new spin on the idea of spiritual disciplines. I would like to share part of it with you:
"Jesus' primary motivation was to demonstrate the love and acceptance of God to all people. His identity was defined by His relationship with God, not by the reaction of His peers."
Is your identity in Christ or in your religious heritage? I believe that religious heritages have stunted Kingdom Growth!
How often do we allow what our Church brethren think to keep us from doing something? We all know we cannot do certain things because of what other Christan may say, think, or believe about us.
Jesus lived His life not worried about what others would think about Him. His identity was in the Father. Take for example His encounter with the woman caught in adultery. The law stated that this woman should be put to death. Jesus was not concerned with what the religious leaders would think. He showed this woman the love of God in a way she was not familiar with. Jesus showed this woman love instead of judgement. Jesus showed this woman mercy instead of punishment. I believe if Jesus was concerned with what the religious leaders would think of Him He would have acted differently.
Are you not doing things because of what religious folk may say, think, or do? If so, are you truly living a life that can be identified with Jesus? Jesus was all about the Fathers business. How about you?
May the Lord bless you and keep you.

ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I do let what people think hold me back. I worry about disrupting things in such a way that they will not listen. So, I gauge my actions more on acceptability. I'm still not sure how well that is working out...
ReplyDeleteI had this whole awesome comment and Blogger botched it. BOOOOO!!! Suffice it to say, Jesus was dangerous. We are typically not. He was radical and loved radically. He got killed for it. I pray I'll have the boldness to love radically, like Jesus. You help me do that, bro!
